Febucan 40 is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used for long-term management of hyperuricemia in patients with chronic gout. It reduces the production of uric acid, thereby lowering serum urate levels and preventing painful gout attacks. Febucan is a safer alternative to allopurinol in patients with hypersensitivity and has been FDA-approved for use since 2009.

  • Monitor liver function during prolonged use

  • May precipitate gout flares during the initial treatment phase (prophylactic NSAID or colchicine may be advised)

  • Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or renal impairment

  • Regular uric acid monitoring recommended
